Trevor’s Challenge 2002

Report

A sprint finish decided the Liss Runners 2003 championships . The top three men ran the 4.5 mile Liss – Flexcombe – Liss course together until the finish was in sight at St.Marys Church. Age category 40-49 winner Peter Turrell was leading with Tom Frost and Nick Baker close behind.  Baker sprinted past Tom then Peter to take first for the 3rd year in a row in a time of 24’ 06”. Peter was a close second with Tom third 10 seconds back. Previous winner of the event in 1999 and 2000 – Alan Davidson – took the 50-59 age category in a time of 29’ 16”. Petersfield international veteran – John Taylor – took the over 60 age category finishing in 31’ 29”.

The ladies section was more clear cut.  In-form Helen Purchase finished almost 1’ 20” ahead of second placed Linda Marais and 3rd place went to a fine run from Helen Smith.

Both Nick and Helen won the Trevor Stothard cups in honour of the club’s founder and first president.
