This league is a series of cross country races held on Sundays from October to March, involving 24 local running clubs. Courses are a mixture of woodland trails and parkland, usually 4 to 5 miles in length and organised by the clubs in the league. There are usually between 300 and 500 runners taking part.
Men and women compete in the same race with the first 5 men and first 3 women from each club scoring points. All abilities take part and even non-scorers can affect the result by getting ahead of scorers from other clubs.
This year participation in the races automatically enters each athlete into the club's own internal league with points being awarded for participation and results meaning that you don't have to be a really fast runner to be in with a chance of receiving an award at the club awards evening.

Races are free to enter and more relaxed and social than the Hampshire Cross Country League. Just turn up to take part but make sure you race in a Liss Runners top . If you don't you may well be disqualified!
There is a speed limit to prevent the fastest racing snakes from taking part: For the ladies it's 6' 00" per mile over a distance of 5 miles or more in races in the year preceeding the first race . This equates to 30' 00" for a race of 5 miles , 37' 15" for a 10km and 60' 00" for a 10mile race. For the men it's 5' 30" per mile ; equating to 27' 30" for a 5 mile race , 34' 09" for a 10km and 55' 00" for 10 miles.
The host clubs lay on a bit of food and drink and the end of the race for a payment of a £1 to £2. It's a great opportunity to chat about the race, stock up on food and drink and it gives the host club a bit of help to pay for the race.
