Founded in 1986, we are a running club based in Liss on the border of Hampshire and West Sussex within the South Downs National Park.
While relatively small with some 200 members, we are a very active and social running club, with members coming from Liss, Petersfield, Bordon and surrounding villages.
We welcome all abilities and ages, no one is too old or too slow. We offer a range of activities from social through to competition:
Liss Runners are affiliated to English Athletics were runners up for Club of the Year for the South East Region. We are also the reigning Southern Cross Country League Champions 24/25. Small can be mighty!
Liss Runners is administered by a Committee, elected every year at the Club's Annual General Meeting.
The Committee is responsible for the long term, strategic direction of the Club, finances, membership, affiliations and registrations, administration, club communication, club merchandise and social activities.
It's important that all club members are aware of the Club's policies that govern how we operate and the conduct required from members. Compliance with these policies ensure that all events and activities we offer are effective and safe for all. As an example, the winter training policy is important for sessions in the dark. Member's attending any session without high viz may not be able to participate.
There are a number of trainers within the club led by Helen Purchase. The trainers lead the interval sessions on Wednesdays and Track sessions. They also support Tuesday Torch runs, Thursday Social and the Sunday Long Run.
Tom is a keen road runner and joined the club in 2025. He also enjoys triathlon, swimrun and can occasionally be found on the trails, if they’re not too muddy!
A long term member of the club for more than 20 years standing. A consistent performer who's intervals tend to be longer efforts than should be legal!
Rosie is a new member to the club in 2025 but has always been a keen runner since school. Rosie is a qualified running coach and leader, and particularly enjoys trail running and getting muddy on XC runs.
Georgie joined the club in 2025 and is so glad to have found it. She loves road running, trail adventures, swimruns and sometimes a bit of triathlon too!
A stalwart of the club and a member since 1994. Tom's fastest times may be behind him but he is still as keen as ever. His sessions are varied and tough for members to get the most benefit.
Having discovered running later in life, Annett credits Liss Runners with inspiring her to run longer distances. She's not the fastest, but still enjoys the XC and road races and mostly leads the weekly Thursday Social run.
Jayne loves all sports but running is her first love. She is just trying to keep it going for as long as she can and enjoy meeting new friends along the way.
Mel is a strong believer in running for good mental health and wellbeing, aiming to create an inclusive and supportive environment for runners to build confidence whatever their goals may be.
Warwick started running and joined Liss Runners 3 years ago. He enjoys all aspects of the Club and all types of race and distance, particularly off road adventures pushing his limits through Ultra distances.
Helen is the club's Training Leader, former Ladies Captain and a long time member of the club.
Catherine has been a member of the club for over 10 years, particularly enjoying the social runs and club league races. A road runner at heart she can be bribed to the trails with promise of cake at the finish line.

Max Stuart
Max has started taking running more seriously over the last couple of years. A qualified ultra coach, he has completed various ultras and knocked 5 minutes off his 5k time.
Stavros took up running late in life and is making up for lost time by keeping a consistent weekly mileage and by joining as many club sessions, races and events in the team's calendar as he can.
James has been a runner for more than 40 years and a member of club since 2002. He's slower these days, but hopefully wiser and able to pass on some of his knowledge.
It's not always lycra, sweat and breathlessness when we get together, there are social meet ups too. Some more formal, some impromptu. Keep up to date with all the Club's activities in the calendar as well as following on both Facebook and Instagram.
While we like to think we are a social club, please be considerate as some members prefer not to be photographed and have their image or other personal information shared on social media.
AGM - April
An AGM sounds dry right? Not when we meet at a pub, and there is a free drink too. Hear how the Club is doing, vote on the appointment of Committee members and help shape the direction of the Club.
Awards Dinner - September
Our annual Awards Dinner is a chance to celebrate the achievements of the club and of members. Plenty of awards up for grabs as well as a table quiz and a thieves raffle.
The 2025 awards will be at The Half Moon in Sheet on September 20th.
Christmas Party
The Club's annual Christmas party. Eating, drinking and dancing the night away.
The 2025 Christmas Party will be at the Half Moon in Sheet on December 13th.
Curry Nights
Several times a year the Club get together for a curry night, usually in the Madhuban in Liss. There is always a curry night held after the last handicap race in September.
Pub Nights
Pub nights are held throughout the year. After all it's important for runners to keep well hydrated. Venues are typically the Townhouse in Petersfield and the Spread Eagle in Liss. Look out for WhatsApp notifications.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
